The AA changing their recognition system

From 2008 the AA, RAC and ETC are changing their way of evaluating hotels and B&B's  The old system of stars and diamonds is being replaced with stars only.  The type of accommodation will now be put into different categories, in order to make a more clear distinction between types of accommodation.  Large hotels will still be known as Hotels, smaller hotels such as Trehaven will be known as Guest Accommodation.  Other categories will include Bed and Breakfasts, Inns, Farm House etc.  The stars will still be graded from 1 to 5, with yellow stars being the top 10% of each category.

Trehaven has been awarded 4 yellow stars for 2007, 2008.

A visit from two very special people

In February we were honoured by a visit from Roger and Jill Bennett, who lived here at Trehaven from 1951 to 1959 - when it was a vicarage.

All quiet now!

This winter has given us the chance to finally refurbish all of the bathrooms in the hotel.  Those who have been before may remember the strange noises from the saniflo / macerator systems which were in some of the bathrooms. The have now GONE....

It was a major operation which involved taking the whole hotel to pieces. installing new pipe work and drains - but it was worth all of the pain and trouble.

We have also refurbished the bathroom in room 6, which now has a digital Aqualisa shower to accompany the bath - click for picture

We have also taken this opportunity to re-decorate rooms 1 and 5, which now look gorgeous -  click for picture

A new welcome

After what seems like a lifetime dealing with the council, we finally gained permission to remove the glass partition wall at the bottom of the staircase. Work has begun to remove the wall and restore the staircase to its original form, opening up the reception.

Photo's will be on the site soon

A big thanks to all who did a fantastic job. Tony and Co., Andy, John, Dave, Malcolm, Janet and many more

Before (3 days before Easter)

After (Good Friday)

The re-building of the dining room has also enabled us to open up the existing lounge to give you more space to relax.

The job isn't over yet. After the Easter break we will continue with the installation of the bar / servery area at the back of the lounge and open up the patio area for the summer sun!

Getting bigger and better

As part of our continuing effort to improve the hotel - we have now started the renovation of room two.

By Easter 2005 (a couple of weeks away) our dining room will have been extended, by knocking through the wall between the two rooms. The extension of the dining room will give more space for breakfast plus a small bar / serving area with comfortable seating to allow you to relax whilst you are with us.
There will be French doors which open up to the side of the hotel, with summer furniture on the patio.  We are looking forward to summer already.

Once the work is finished we will publish photo's on this site - so keep us bookmarked for another visit

Throughout  2004

Chop Chop Chop, build build build and phew what a year

A few thanks to people who have helped us to make you comfortable.

Sir Malcolm, our estate manager (ooh that sounds posh)  He can chop back over grown bushes like Jackie Chan on overtime.

John the fuse, who made Trehaven the bright star it now is, with its new lights,

Mackerel Dave - a whiz on the walls.

Phil the filler, who has painstakingly restored all of the windows in the rooms.  They are luverly.

Neil - who manages to hide whenever there is work to be done.

Jonathan and Matthew (our sons) - they sweep the drive!

and of course - not forgetting -  Ella, who held the whole thing together,  as well as doing her part time jobs such as:-  the laundry, ironing, cleaning, cooking, waiting tables, washing dishes, taking the kids to school, making scones, baking bread, doing the accounts, getting provisions and of course, there's always a little time left over for  -  shopping.

December 2004

Pretty good going for your first year in the business.

Well done Ella

We made it through our first year

Many thanks to all of you who have made our first year in the hotel business a great success.

We have met some wonderful people and had some funny moments, especially the disappearing tea (ask Ella about that when you next come)

Thank you and we do hope you will come to see us again soon

Trehaven unveils a new kitchen, a few odd plates and some yummy coffee

In order to provide an even better quality of service and food, we have just  made a massive
investment and re-furbished our ageing kitchen.  The new equipment is a state of the art system from commercial kitchen designers Lotus in Italy.

To add to this we have totally renewed all of our chinaware with the Alchemy range from Churchill in the potteries, and we have purchased a state of the art coffee machine, which makes freshly ground coffee straight from the beans.

A visit from the AA

We had been told to expect a surprise visit from the hotel inspector at some point - and boy was it a surprise. A well mannered gentleman checked in one Monday night - he was the only guest, so we offered him a meal - as it was too cold to send him out to a restaurant.  Next day when he checked out he introduced himself.  We nearly fell off our chairs.  We were taken to one side - expecting the worst.  He then told Ella that her breakfast was one of the best he had eaten in a long time and so was the evening meal we cooked for him the night before.  He then awarded Trehaven four
red diamonds, a breakfast and evening meal award.

Our first New Year

Well it was our first New Year at Trehaven, it was a baptism by fire - as it was the first time we were full of guests, so we decided to throw a little drinks party, before everyone headed off into town for the New Year celebrations.

Despite a little bit of rain - everyone enjoyed themselves - and yes most turned up for breakfast on the first day of the new year too.  There were a few thick heads though.
